ABOUT KAREN

Having always worked in the architectural industry I too experienced the impact of the 2008 recession on the sector. At the time I was a leading UK CAD & BIM consultant who frequented many offices where redundancies were widespread. Tension, fear and peer competition were evident, resilience and confidence were low. It was a time which fundamentally shifted my thinking and goals; I realised I cared more about the wellbeing of the architects than I did for the technology. Thus, my career journey transitioned from consulting to mentoring and after extensive training, to coaching architects and designers.

As someone who values both individualism and good leadership, I firmly believe that every company that invests in the development of its people will always reap healthy dividends. I love working with people and I'm proactive about personal development that can have a positive and quantifiable impact on the running of businesses at every conceivable level.

My Professional Coaching Career

I decided in 2014 to become an Leadership Coach, qualifying in Personal and Business Coaching (Level 7) and with over 20 years in the AEC (Architectural, Engineering & Construction) industry, I offer a unique position of understanding the culture and system.  I bring to coaching my sector experience that has encompassed diverse roles as: technician, manager, trainer, technical writer & editor, speaker, network host, consultant, director and business owner. I am known for developing long-term relationships with my clients, ensuring a level of quality and commitment that is backed by mutual trust.

I am a PCC (Professional Certified Coach) with the International Coach Federation (ICF) and a certified facilitator of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method and materials. I'm also an active WiA committee member (Women in Architecture UK) and support NAWIC and WiBIM.

I honour and adhere to the ethics and standards of the ICF and believe in taking my own personal self-development seriously. I am also an avid reader and keep up to date with research and industry trends. And by drawing on the wider experience of peer coaches and my alumni coaching group, I’m well placed to question, challenge and develop my approach to coaching theories, tools and processes.

My peers describe me as friendly, professional, and down to earth. I’m also highly visual, as are many of my clients, and I  encourage you to write, diagram, draw and think creatively during sessions. My coaching is action-oriented, whilst remaining open and supportive.

I am a working mum, living with my partner Klaus, a talented carpenter & joiner (view on Houzz) in North London. Outside of work, much of my time is spent reading, gardening or getting creative with the kids.
